Juliet McMullen

Professor Juliet McMullin is a cultural and medical anthropologist who has worked in the UC Riverside Department of Anthropology since 2004. She joined the Center for Healthy Communities in 2014 as the associate director for community engagement.

McMullin's research interests include the political economy of health and the role of narrative in medical encounters. To examine these larger questions she has focused specifically on topics related to medical knowledge and inequalities in cancer, cultural meanings of health, and pediatric injury. Her research practices emphasize community-based participatory research and the inclusion of students in projects.

She has worked with underserved populations, particularly Latinos and Pacific Islanders, including ethnographic fieldwork with native Hawaiians living in Hawaii and California.
